Dragono

Paper Mache animal, 17" x9.5"
Up on the Porch Roof, Portland, Maine

Here's a rather fanciful paper mache dragon. It consists of a wire structure covered with newspaper, and 3 layers of paper mache. I typically use a simple 50/50 mixture of warm water and flour which is both inexpensive and keeps well in the fridge.

The colors are created with a coat of tissue paper. In this case, each color of tissue paper was cut into small squares, which were applied in a mosaic-like fashion. The fire and wings were especially challenging and fun. They too have a wire structure. Finally, a couple coats of Modge Podge gives the beast a little shine, and ensures the paper is well protected. The kids named this one Dragono.
