Sweet grass, found ocean-smoothed brick, waxed linen thread.
4.5” x 10” x 11”

The brick pieces at the centers of this work were found along the coast near my home in Portland, Maine. New England construction uses a lot of brick historically, and understandably some of it ends up in the ocean. Their color, texture, and shape speak to time and history. The work uses these fragments as the impetus for form and connection. The two pieces, different yet very similar, speak to each other across a small void; connected yet separate, more together than apart. In this way, they speak to some of the foundational ideas of fiber art and basketry.
