Standing tall on woven chenille stems, this piece has the lopsided charm of a Dr. Seuss invention — a checkered blue-and-navy column rising up like a stalk, capped by a wide, ruffled brim of black and white before breaking into a golden, urn-like crown that finally lets loose in a spray of yellow stem-ends, wild as a burst of fireworks or an unruly bloom. The shift from tightly ordered basketweave below to loose, springing tendrils above gives the whole thing a sense of growth caught mid-motion, equal parts architecture and organism, as if it might still be unfurling.
