3 Fish

3 Fish, paper maché, approx. 4.5" each
Up on the Porch Roof, Portland, Main

I made these paper maché fish with my kids. We simply crushed up some newspaper, and used masking tape to create the forms. Our typical paper maché mixture of 50/50 flour and warm water was used. After the basic forms were dry (a fan can really speed things up), we used colored tissue paper cut into small squares to add interest.

This is an easy project that anyone can do. Nothing here is 'precious,' as it's really simply about making. You can see that each fish is unique and rather oddly shaped; attributes emblematic of the freedom found here just to make. The materials of newspaper and tape are easily manipulated, so mistakes don't really come into play. The fish is 'found' in the act of making.
