This basket was made in class with Joann Kelly Catsos. JoAnn is an award-winning traditional black ash splint basketmaker, artist, and instructor based in the northern Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. Her intricately woven work is heavily influenced by traditional Shaker and utilitarian New England splint basketry, blending a traditional foundation with a subtle contemporary touch.
I have had the pleasure of taking several classes with Joann. She is a warm, calm, wonderful teacher!
