Sweet grass, found sticks, waxed linen thread, artificial sinew
(drilling, stitching, coiling, lashing)
25 x 8 x 10 in
Here, sweeping coils of sweetgrass embrace two weathered found sticks, creating a form that evokes shelter, strength, and quiet resilience. The flowing curves contrast with the upright wood, balancing movement and stillness. Rooted in natural materials, the sculpture honors connection, endurance, and the land's enduring rhythms.
This is the most coiling I have done on a single piece in this series. I will share that it was quite a conversation between my vision and what the sweetgrass wanted to do. The weaving's curves often led to unintended bends and twists, taking the form in directions not readily seen. But in the end, I am pleased with our final result, especially that it stands - that was the primary goal!
Enjoy your day!!
